Recommended Resources

We’ve collected some of the best cancer-related resources from the Internet. These are only a starting point and cannot take the place of the attention and recommendations of your professional healthcare provider. However, learning about cancer and how others have dealt with the same challenges you’re facing can guide you in getting the help and support you need. The Maine Cancer Resource Connection is a joint project of the Dempsey Center in Lewiston, the Cancer Community Center in South Portland and the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center in Ellsworth.

These resources have been checked out and are reliable. However, if you are looking for information on the Internet beware of .com sites that are often selling something. Look for sites that end in .gov, .edu, or .org.

The Beth Wright Center in Ellsworth has a computer available for patient/family use and volunteers that can assist if needed. Computers are available at your local library.

You can also call us for information or contact the Maine Cancer Resource Connection at or call Karen Page at Toll Free: 1-866-446-4865 or (207) 755-389

I was 24 when I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and when doctor’s in Machias found a 11cm tumor located in my chest. As a recent college graduate and a newlywed, I was diagnosed 10 days after moving to Machias. The Beth C. Wright Center has helped me in many parts of my cancer journey. I have attended the Machias Be in Motion Cancer fitness class, support groups and have made so many lifelong friends through the center’s events and programs. Anybody looking for support, friendship, encouragement, and hope can turn to the Beth C. Wright Resource Center. The staff and volunteers are wonderful and are ready to help anybody with the effects of cancer on the human life.
