Learn skills for a full, robust life through diagnosis & beyond
Cancer patients, their loved ones, and caregivers will have the opportunity to enhance their skills for living a full, robust life thorough a cancer diagnosis and beyond at a weekend retreat that will be led by Dr. Rob Rutledge, Radiation Oncologist and Dr. Timothy Walker, Psychotherapist at the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center on the weekend of June 7th, 8th and 9th, 2019. The workshop is free to all participants.
This weekend retreat is designed to empower a group of people with knowledge, teach them essential healing skills, and provide an opportunity for them to connect with their own healing potential. Through experiential exercises and both small and large group instruction, the participants typically begin to recognize their inherent wisdom and strength.
Since 1999, Dr. Rutledge has facilitated dozens of ‘Skills for Healing’ Cancer Weekend Retreats in more than 20 cities. The retreats are available to people with any type and stage of cancer and an accompanying loved one. Along with psychotherapist Dr. Timothy Walker, he teaches an integrated and practical approach to the cancer diagnosis. The sessions include: how to negotiate and get the best from the medical system, scientifically proven healthy lifestyle habits, the science of the mind-body connection, and stress physiology and relaxation. They teach mindfulness-based stress reduction, meditation, yoga, Qi Gong, and how to re-frame difficult thoughts – all within the setting of a safe environment and supportive-expressive support group.
The retreat will take place on Friday, June 7, 5pm – 8pm; Saturday, June 8, 9am – 4pm; and Sunday, June 9, 9am – 3pm. Refreshments will be offered on Friday, and breakfast and lunch will be provided on Saturday and Sunday. Registration will take place from 5:00pm – 5:30pm at the Center.
