Mindfulness Pratice: Tools for Well Being with Jen Harry

There are many mindfulness tools, techniques, and practices that can be used to influence one’s own well-being and health. Tools for Well Being a mindfulness practice led by Jen Harry will begin meeting on the 3rd Friday of each month, 10:30 am to 12 noon, in-person at the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center with an online option via Zoom.  The goal of the group is to build a toolbox of techniques to help navigate life’s challenges and enhance each person’s level of well-being so that all can flourish in life.

What is “mindfulness”?  Focusing on the present moment and learning to become aware of what is going on inside and around you—your thoughts, feelings, sensations, and environment. You observe these moments without judgment.

Every meeting includes information on the science & research behind the practices.  Jen presents different techniques that are drawn from many different areas including Mindfulness, Stress Reduction, Brain Science, & Positive Psychology, with an emphasis on finding ways to use these tools every day.  Examples of topics covered include stress transformation and dealing with challenging emotions.  An added benefit is that each session starts with a short Relaxation Meditation that allows participants to step back from their troubles, and daily routine, giving time to just “be” for a moment.

Jen Harry studied Psychology at Penn State as an undergraduate and has worked in the mental health field in various capacities over the past 20 years.  She furthered her studies and certification in the Methods of Japanese Psychology, training in Mind-Body Techniques to reduce stress, and most recently, certification in Applied Positive Psychology (the science of human flourishing & optimal functioning) as well as a Resiliency Trainer.
