Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction with Margot Wells
May 20 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pmFree
Finding healthy ways to reduce stress has taken on a new meaning over the past year. Balancing the stress of daily life is enough of a challenge, and adding a cancer diagnosis to the mix, especially during a pandemic has put many over-the-top. On Thursday, May 20, 2021, from 12:00 am – 1:30 pm, Margot Wells will present ‘Mindfulness-Based Stressed Reduction: What It Is and Why You Should Know About It.’ This free session will be presented on Zoom by the Beth Wright Cancer Resource Center.
Wells will inform participants about the practice of ‘Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)’ a groundbreaking and scientifically researched program that was developed by the University of Massachusetts Medical School. It is based on ancient mindfulness philosophies and practices, and modern science is proving that it can make profound changes in our bodies and minds, helping people living with a cancer diagnosis. Participants will engage in yogic breathing and simple seated movements followed by a meditation.
Margot Wells is a breast cancer survivor who teaches the MBSR program. She completed her training through the University of Massachusetts Medical School and the Brown University School of Public Health. After many years in the financial industry, a personal health crisis forced her to make changes in her life. The MBSR program helped her to heal emotionally and physically and to improve her quality of life. She now teaches the program to help others who may be suffering as she did to better cope with cancer in their lives.
