Maine Cancer Series ~ 15 the Annual Washington County Cancer Conference – Finding Peace In Planning

November 4, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 1:30 pm

Finding Peace in Planning

Your important information, documents, and plans for the unexpected all in one place

It may be difficult to look ahead to a time when you are unable to manage your household, or communicate about your financial affairs, your personal wishes, and desires. It may seem unfathomable that an emergency situation would require you and your family to make important decisions on a moment’s notice.

Why is it important to plan and record important information? Because how we and our loved ones live the latter part of life, how we die, is a big deal. Yet it is the subject most of us want to avoid. We are willing to plan for weddings, childbirth, college, and retirement, but not end of life care. Often, we wait until a crisis to make these decisions when decision making is most difficult, instead of while sitting around the kitchen table.

This conference “Finding Peace in Planning “will help guide you and your loved ones on how to start the conversation, organize important documents, give you tools for your toolbox and give you a step-by-step guide to record important information before it is ever needed. It’s the essential organizer to grab at a moment’s notice or when crucial questions arise. And a great comfort to your family.

Join us on Friday, November 4, from 9 am – 1:30 pm for the Washington County Cancer Conference at the Lee Pellon Center in Machias, with registration beginning at 8:00 am.

The theme of the conference is ‘Finding Peace in Planning.’ The conference will offer patients in treatment, survivors, and caregivers an interactive tour guided by The Five Wishes Conversation Guide. Wishes include:

Who you want to make health care decisions for you when you can’t make them.

The kind of medical treatment you want or don’t want.

• How comfortable you want to be.

• How you want people to treat you.

• What you want your loved ones to know.

In addition to compiling a guide, you’re invited to listen to speakers discussing cancer in Maine and emerging supports, a patient panel, and a complimentary lunch.

The conference is free, open to all and is planning to be hosted in person.
