Expression in Art: Using Art and Landscape
February 17, 2021 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pmFree
Take a break this winter and lift your spirits with a free art class! Explore your creativity and your emotions through self-expression as Art Therapist, Alahna Roach, guides us through the series, Expression in Art: Using Art and Landscape. We will be hosting classes each Wednesday, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm, for the month of February. Alahna will offer a different project each week.
Participants will learn to work with various art media. Combining art and nature’s landscapes will demonstrate the deep connection and energy that exists between us and the land that surrounds us. As we journey through watercolors, charcoal drawings, and the shaping of beach clay, we will connect with the present. We can strengthen our ability to be open to the joy (and occasional frustrations) in each moment. Participants will learn how to forage for art supplies in nature. This activity connects us with nature’s bounty, growing stronger in the spirit on the journey. Basic art supplies will be provided if needed.
Alahna Roach earned her master’s degree in Art Therapy at Naropa University in Boulder, CO. She is a practicing art therapist, working for Transforming Rural Experience in Education as a Moving Stories storyteller and has her own private practice. Alahna grew up nourished by the landscapes of Downeast Maine and has worked as an art teacher, classroom teacher, and Ed. Tech. She has presented at state, national and international conferences, testifying to the healing power of art.
