Walkers-1Walk for Life – May 19

You are invited to participate in the 12th Annual Beth C. Wright Walk for Life starting at the Addison Town Hall on Saturday May 19, 2012 at 10:00. Last year $31,000 was raised from sponsors and pledges collected by walkers. This year’s goal is $35,000.

Again this year there will again be two options, a 5 mile loop and a 2 mile out and back course. The Walk for Life provides critical funding for our free services, support, and programs to cancer survivors, their family and friends in Downeast Maine. Registration starts at 8:30 with the opening ceremony at 9:30.

This year's event promises to be an exciting one with fun activities for the whole family. In addition to the Walk in honor and memory of people that have been affected by cancer, there will be a Barbecue Lunch, Chinese Auction, 50/50 Raffle, Bake Sale, entertainment by DJ Clyde and the University of Maine at Machias Ukulele Club, Face Painting, Kiddie Train and other children’s activities.

Walkers-2This year we are encouraging people to form teams of at least five people and gain special recognition for the team by raising at least $500.00. If you are interested in forming a team, please call 664-0339 for details.

Walkers are important in making the Walk for Life a success. Please ask your friends or neighbors to pledge money to the Walk for Life to show their support for you and the Center. Contact the Center for information and a Walk for Life brochure and pledge page at 664-0339 or register at www.bethwrightwalkforlife.kintera.org.

The Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center has helped people in the past year through programs held at the Center in Ellsworth and through outreach programs in Washington and Hancock counties. In 2011, over $22,000 was given to help people with financial stresses associated their diagnosis and treatments. We are making a difference in the lives of many people living with cancer in our communities.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Ride For Life Success

Ride For Life Success!

DSCN0078The 7th Annual Beth C. Wright Ride For Life, held Saturday September 10, was a great success. This year $22,379.00 was raised through sponsor fees, registration fees, and pledges collected by the 100 riders who participated in the various rides. All of the programs and services of the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center are offered at no charge, so a successful Ride For Life is essential to help us meet our program expenses.

Thank you to Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, Poor Boy's Gourmet Restaurant, Nova Foods, and the Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop for being the gold sponsors of this year's Ride and to Acadia Realty Group, Friend & Friend, Freshwater Stone, James L. Pendergist, CLU, and Tradewinds Market for being silver sponsors.

DSCN0041Thanks also go to the organizing committee, led by Co-Chairs Meredith Friend and Tom Collins and composed of Marjorie Yesley, Jim Green, Cathy Planchart, and Amy Schwartz who put in many months of meetings to make the day a success. Thank you also to the forty-five volunteers who spent a good part of their Saturday overseeing the water stations, directing traffic, serving food, and setting up and breaking down the venue at the Surry School.

Special thanks to Mary Ann DeRaps, principal of the Surry School for the use of the school grounds, the Surry Fire Department and the Blue Hill Fire Department for their help with traffic control, and the Ellsworth Amateur Wireless Association for their help with communications during the Ride.

IMG_1214Congratulations to the MDI Hospital team captained by Kathleen Kotas and composed of Beth Dewey, Debbie Innes, Dean Read, Inge Smallidge, and Lindsey Young for winning the team trophy for most money raised. Maine Coast Memorial Hospital Cruisers, led by Molly Collins came in second in the team competition and the Down East Family YMCA Spinners led by Tom Collins came in third.

Testimonials

"Three years ago I had the privilege of collaborating with the Beth C. Wright Center to bring a monthly cancer support group to the regional medical center in Lubec. This proved to be a blessing to the survivors and their families. The Beth C. Wright Center is a clearinghouse for resources and options for all of us professionals, family members and survivors. To me, the Beth C. Wright Center offers hope to cancer survivors in Washington county."
